Program Requirements

The Animation BFA program is a limited enrollment program requiring departmental admissions approval. Interested students should declare pre-major intent, complete DESAN 101, and submit an online portfolio of their work. Pre-major application deadlines are at the end of 1st term Fall semester and at the end of 1st term Winter semester.
Students accepted into the pre-major program complete the foundational courses and then may apply for the BFA professional program through a portfolio review in June.

Artistic Development and Proficiency

Animation graduates will be able to implement fundamental design, narrative, and animation skills and will demonstrate proficiency in at least one of these areas.

Technological Development and Proficiency

Animation graduates will be able to apply problem-solving abilities in the technical processes of modeling, lighting, rigging, animation, and special effects, and will demonstrate proficiency in at least one of these areas.

Collaboration and Professionalism

Animation graduates will be able to engage in the collaborative production processes of animation and exhibit professional behavior while creating interdisciplinary creative works.

Spirituality, Ethics and Animation

Animation graduates will be able to critically examine spiritual values and ethical issues relevant to their respective experiences in the entertainment industry.

History and Critical Thinking

Animation graduates will be able to implement ideas and principles from the history of animation and art in general by identifying the meaning and purpose of major works and movements within the context of their own projects.
